We live in an exciting time for journalism. We are exploring and creating new forms of journalism for new audiences in an era of changing technology and storytelling. When you join NWSP, you are part of that movement. When high school journalists and their teachers work together with local media producers and local colleges and universities, the school to work connection is complete. We are moving in new directions together.
We know that our members count on our statewide fall press day. We also know they count on our Student Media O-lympics in the spring for newspaper, yearbook, magazine, web, and broadcast contests for best-in-the-state bragging rights and staff recognition events at the end of the year. Our website features valuable teaching resources and news, and we offer special Jump Start Workshops throughout the year for students and advisers.
But that’s not all. We work with and through other organizations to support scholastic journalism. We work with and help support OJEA and have a seat on their board, just as they have a seat on our board. We provide funds for new teacher training and support for the Oregon JEA Mentor Program. The University of Oregon School of Journalism provides financial support and staff for our programs and initiatives. We also have a long-standing relationship working with the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association. In short, all of us must work together to maintain a culture of vibrant local journalism in our communities across the state.
Add your voice to the mix. Join us today as we blaze a trail to the future through scholastic journalism.
