Rookie Of the Year
Rookie Journalism Teacher of the Year
The Oregon High School Rookie Journalism Teacher of the Year award is open to any active journalism teacher and/or publications adviser in an Oregon public or private high school with less than two years experience. Like the Teacher of the Year award, nominations are accepted from principals, professional journalists, fellow teachers, or students. Individuals may also self-nominate. The selection will be made by the same group that selects the Teacher of the Year. The winner receives a $250 cash award.
How to nominate:
The process for nominating a teacher of the year has recently been simplified. Nominating parties need only to submit three items:
1) Media Samples. Please submit two issues of the school newspaper, one copy of the most recent yearbook, a tape or DVD of two broadcasts or a reference to an online edition.
2) Letters of recommendation. Two to five letters of recommendation from teachers, administrators, students, local professionals or community members who know the nominee’s work.
3) Completed nomination form. The included nomination form can be used for either the Teacher of the Year or Rookie Teacher of the Year.
All materials should be mailed to State JEA Director J.D. McIntire at 13115 SW Park Way, Portland, Oregon, 97225. Submission deadline is February 15, 2012.
